Storm Damage Repair in Guthrie
Hail and wind leave damage that is easy to miss from the ground. We get up on your roof, take dated photos of each bruised, creased or missing shingle, and explain plainly what needs fixing. Repairs follow current code, with the permit pulled when the job requires one.
What storm damage repair covers
Storm damage is often hard to see from the yard. Hail can knock the granules off asphalt shingles and crack the mat underneath without leaving a hole. Wind can break the seal strip on a row of shingles so they lift and drop back into place, looking fine until the next gust takes them. We look for both, along with dented vents, split flashing and gutters pulled loose from the fascia.
Some storms call for a patch on one slope. Others leave enough bruising across the roof that replacement is the honest answer. We show you photos of what we found and explain which way we lean and why, so the decision is yours and it rests on evidence.
We hold an Oklahoma residential roofing license and an Oklahoma general contractor license, which covers both the roofing work and the decking or framing repairs a hard storm sometimes leaves behind.
What the work includes
A full roof walk with photos
Every slope gets checked, along with the ridge, valleys, vents and flashing. Each damaged spot is photographed and dated, and you get copies for your records and any insurance claim.
Drying in the roof
When a storm has opened the roof, we tarp or temporarily seal the spot so rain stays out while the claim and the repair get worked out.
Repairs built to current code
New shingles are fastened to the manufacturer's nailing pattern, over sealed starter rows, proper drip edge and underlayment. Many older roofs skipped some of those steps, and a repair is the right moment to bring the damaged section up to standard.
Decking and flashing replacement
Any soft or cracked decking under the damaged shingles is replaced before new material goes down. Bent step flashing and torn pipe boots get swapped out, never just caulked.
Permits and inspection
If a repair turns into a reroof or structural work, we pull the permit and book the inspection so the job is officially recorded as done right.
Gutters and cleanup
Gutters dented by hail or pulled loose can be fixed in the same visit. Before we pack up, we clear debris and run a magnetic sweeper over your lawn and drive to pick up stray nails.
How to tell a storm hit your roof
Grit piling up at downspouts
After hail, a thick layer of sandy granules washing out of the downspouts usually means shingles have lost part of their protective coating.
Dents on soft metal
Dings in gutters, vent caps or air conditioner fins are a quick clue that the hail was large enough to bruise shingles as well.
Shingles in the yard
Missing tabs, or a row of shingles that looks lifted or creased, point to wind that broke the seal strip.
New ceiling stains
A water spot appearing a few days after a storm often leads back to damaged flashing or a puncture close by.
Crews working on nearby roofs
When several neighbors are getting roofs replaced after the same storm, it makes sense to have yours checked too.
How a storm repair job runs
- 1
Your call and our visit
Let us know what you've spotted since the storm, and we'll pick a time that works for you to come out and get on the roof.
- 2
Documentation
We photograph the damage, measure the affected area and write up the repairs needed and the codes that apply. If you file a claim, you can hand our photos and write-up to your adjuster. We'll explain how the process works, but coverage is the adjuster's decision.
- 3
Temporary protection
Open spots get dried in right away, so water isn't coming in while paperwork is pending.
- 4
Repair day
We cover landscaping and siding, strip the damaged material, check the decking, then install new underlayment, flashing and shingles. Most repairs are finished in a single day.
- 5
Final check and inspection
We go over the finished roof with you or send photos of the completed work. When a permit was pulled, we see the job through until it passes the city inspection.
What moves the price of a storm repair
Every storm hits a roof differently, so we don't put a number on the job until we've seen the damage up close. Our estimate comes to you in writing, broken out line by line, and when insurance is part of it, the scope matches what your adjuster is looking at. If tearing off old shingles turns up something new, like rotted decking, we show you photos and talk it over before going further.
- How much of the roof is damaged
- Replacing a handful of shingles on one slope is a small job. Hail bruising on every slope pushes the work toward a full replacement.
- Decking condition
- Rain that slipped in through storm damage can soften the plywood underneath. Every sheet that has to come out adds material and labor.
- Code upgrades
- Bringing the damaged section up to current code may call for drip edge, underlayment or ventilation the original roof was built without.
- Matching materials
- Older or discontinued shingles are hard to match. Sometimes a full slope gets new shingles so the roof looks right and seals the way it should.
- Roof pitch and access
- A steep roof means harnesses, roof jacks and a slower pace for the crew. Overhanging branches or nearby utility lines also call for added care, which adds hours to the job.
Storm damage repair questions
Something not covered here? (405) 883-9361
Should I call you or my insurance company first?
Many homeowners have us look first so they know whether the damage is real before filing. Our photos and write-up help you have a clearer conversation with your insurer. Filing is your call, and coverage is decided by your adjuster.
Do I need a permit for storm repairs?
Small repairs often do not, but a reroof or work that touches the structure usually does. We check what the city requires for your specific job and pull the permit ourselves when one is needed.
Can you put new shingles over the damaged ones?
Code generally does not allow a new layer over shingles that are damaged, wet or already stacked two layers deep. We tear off to the decking so we can see and fix what is underneath.
How long do I have to report hail damage?
Policies set their own deadlines, and some are shorter than people expect. Check with your agent soon after the storm, even if you are not sure there is damage.
Are impact-resistant shingles worth it?
Class 4 impact-rated shingles hold up better to hail, and some insurers offer a discount for them. Ask your agent, and we can price both options so you can compare.
